Random Things I've Learned This Summer

Or had reaffirmed in some way.

Kids are funny. Everyone should keep a few around for laughs. Here are some conversation tidbits I've enjoyed over the last few months from 5 year olds.

Upon finding a frog:
"Let's name him Hoppy!"
"No, let's name him Kevin!"

Upon finding a dead frog:
"Poor froggy."

The 5 year old girl sitting in the pew in front of us at church to my 5 year old son:
"Do you see my sparkling beauty?"
"No."
Same 5 year old girl to same son a few days later at the pool:
"Will you marry me when we grow up?"
"I guess."
Her mom, "What if C doesn't marry you?"
Girl, "I guess I'll have to ask someone else."

I should fear 5 year old girls for sure.

While at the pool I learned that I shouldn't worry so much about how I look in a swim suit. No one else does and some of them really should.

Along with that--there should be some kind of unwritten  code that prevents certain sizes from being made in certain styles.

My dog isn't very smart, but he's really cute.

Some dogs act a lot like cats. For instance, mine likes to warm up in a square of light from the window, sleep on his back, and lick himself like a cat. I've been told it might be because he watches a cat through the window.

The best way to save money is to groom your dog yourself. And rip out your own carpets before having someone install wood floors.

A 70inch Sharp Aquos TV is a beautiful thing. Even a girl could drool over it and think "I wants it!" But alas, where would you put a monster like that?

When I schedule blogs for two months, I feel out of touch with my bloggy friends. I can't wait to get caught up when my  kids go back to school.

Finding contentment in where you are in life makes everything that much better. Life is good.

What have you learned this summer?

  1. I totally agree with your husband!!!
I've learned that I really hate humidity. Wait, I already knew that.

    1. yeah, and although we've only had a handful of super high heat days, our humidity has been crazy this year.

  2. I have to completely agree with you regarding the "some things should not be made in certain sizes." I'm a hefty-sized woman myself and can't recognizing there is a difference between being confident in your beauty, no matter what size, and just plain blindness :-)

And from my Chipmunk, I'm getting the idea there is a big difference between cute and cool. She'd rather be cool lol!!

    1. LOL, I'm with you. Part of me thinks, good for them for being comfortable in their own skin. And the other part is, I don't want anyone to see me not looking my best.

I'm with your Chipmunk. Since I'm no longer eligible for "cute" I want to be cool too.

  3. I've learned that the next time I move, I'm hiring a company to do all the packing and actual moving.

I've also learned I have to save $100- a month every single month so I can go to the beach in the summer. My trip got canceled this year because of the move and it's killing me.

And according to my daughter, we need to save the dragons. She's 7. We need to go to the forests and save the dragons. NOW!

    1. I've moved a lot in my life and once a company paid for movers. It was nice only because I was pregnant at the time. The headache that accompanied not knowing where everything was because I'm a meticulous label-er was crazy. And then there is the stuff that went missing.

And I wish we had made it to the beach this year. This makes the third summer we didn't make it, and it's only 4 hours away. That's a shame really.

      Yes! Let's save the dragons!

  4. I learned that I work with a few jerks who believe that they don't need to take sick leave because they are too "strong" for that. So they come to work sick and infect me and then I get sick and they get better.

I've learned that most people are inherently selfish.

And I've learned that there is very little I wouldn't do for five million bucks (hypothetical what if questions). Like..."Would you go to prison for 3 years if at the end, you got five million dollars tax free?" My answer: Hell yes. That's literally 100 years of my present annual salary. Would I give away 3 years of my life to have 100 years of salary? mmmhmm Anyway...you can tell I have weird conversations with people. I have co-workers that were like, "No way would I do that." And I shrugged saying, "It's not like it's a real offer but if it were, I'd take it, and then I'd never have to work again and could live in Fiji."

    1. LOL, I'd seriously consider 3 years in prison for 5 mil. I guess it depends on if I could get solitary and a laptop or endless supply of notebooks or not. Meaning, I'd love solitary for 3 years if I had something to write on. Can you imagine how many books I could crank out in that time?

  5. Sounds like you've been having an amazing summer.

I've learned that summer swim team at 8:00 is really, really hard to get to on a regular basis.

    1. I was lucky I guess. My son rode up there with the other neighborhood kids and I picked them all up at 8:30. That extra few minutes was wonderful!

a sad story, my at the time 10 yo son caught a small frog and when he showed the 6 yo younger brother, little bro stepped on it...them's boys.

  7. I love to listen to kids talk. I get the best Twitter posts that way.

What have I learned this summer? I don't know. I'll have to think on that one.

    1. Oo! I should start using them on twitter. Since writing this post I learned that on Sunday the girl turned and asked my son if he still loved her.

He said yes and she turned back around happy. Funny that he's only 5 and he knows that in order to avoid drama you always tell a girl what she wants to hear.

  8. A cute and funny post! I especially liked the part about the kids. Awww :D I learned this summer that we can't even so much as look at our puppy's leash without him bothering us to take him on a second or third walk for the day ;)

    1. Ha! That's great. We still have to drag my puppy half of the walk. When we turn around he's almost at a dead run to get home. I think he just want's to play in the yard with the kids.

  9. I've relearned that I don't like the heat...at all.

My eldest is the funny one, even at 18. He still hasn't mastered the art of telling jokes without laughing at the same time

    1. It's been super busy, but I can honestly say I've felt happier this summer and more content with where and who I am than I have in a long time. That's a good place to be.

    1. I always think this until the Fall. Autumn is such a beautiful relief after our humid summers that it steals my heart back every time.

    1. Holy cow, yes! And unfortunately, raising one takes just as much plus a lot of patience. Enjoy it while he/she can't talk back to you. ;O
