Doctor Who--I is for the Impossible Astronaut

Welcome to the A to Z blogging challenge! My theme is Doctor Who because its the topic my kids voted we do together. We're sticking with people, places, creatures, and episodes from the newer series starting with Christopher Eccleston's (#9) simply because we haven't watched all the Classics...yet.

You can find the list of other participants HERE. I'm #149.

The Impossible Astronaut--*sigh* This is where a wonderfully complex plot took off and made me fall in love with Matt Smith's version of the Doctor.

Here's what it says on Tardis.wikia. "The first episode of the sixth series of Doctor Who. It brought into perspective a fiendish plot to kill the Doctor and its ultimate outcome, leading his companions to believe he was going to die in the far future."

Here is the awesome trailer for the two part series opener The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon

Idris--Or, the TARDIS in human form. Brilliant episode really. This clip says it all!

For those of  you who have never watched Doctor Who, have I almost convinced you to give it a try?

  1. If the Tardis was a woman... I just won't go there.

    1. LOL, that's why I loved Amy's comment, "Did you wish really hard?"

  2. I've said before I'm not a Smith fan, but the interactions that he had with the "human" tardis softened me to him quite a bit. And if I'm brutally honest, I don't think even my beloved Tennant could have done a better job on that episode (although the same cannot be said for some other ones...but you expect me to say something like that by now! HA!).

    1. LOL. I watched this fun movie the other day with Tennant (did I already tell you that?). It was called The Decoy Bride. Then of course he was perfect in Broadchurch too.

  3. I just felt so betrayed when they changed doctors. We still watched the 50 year anniversary special though, and loved it. I like the current doctor. (Or is that changing now?)

    1. Yep, it's changing again. I'm going in more optimistic about change being a good thing, hoping it will help the transition, but I know I'll miss quirky Matt Smith!

  4. The Doctor's Wife is my all time favorite episode, I love Idris at The Tardis.

    1. Me too! It was just so fun to see the TARDIS's personality manifested in a human body. And to think she thinks we're bigger on the inside!

    1. I'm trying to convert the non-believers, but I'm hoping the Whovians can enjoy reliving some of these clips.

Should I admit that several of the ones I've chosen made me tear up? It still makes me sad certain elements of the show are over, but I'm looking forward to the new generation.

    1. Yay! Just remember, give it a few episodes. The thing that makes Doctor Who amazing is the over-arching story that covers several seasons and versions of the Doctor. Good luck and enjoy!

  7. One of my favourites! The Impossible Astronaut/ Day of the Moon, to me they are one episode. The Silence are one of the creepiest monsters, and my favourite in New Who.

  8. That episode confused me. I need to go back and rewatch it.

Loved the TARDIS in human form. I only wish she would return.

  9. I'm going to have to go forward to one of the more recent seasons, and then give it a try again!

  10. THAT'S a good story line/episode. I liked it when there was an overall story arc to a season, though I guess some people complained because they don't do it that often :/

    1. They seemed to do that more often with Smith's Doctor. That's what finally won me over I think--the overall story line.

  11. Not yet, but keep trying! :) I bought my bf a disappearing Tardis mug…does that count?

  12. Now, with all this talk of the TARDIS, I'm going to have to draw one for my Dr Who collection on my website. I took a picture of a blue Police Box when I was up in my hometown (Glasgow) recently. There are very few around now - Police Boxes. I've got a photograph I took of one for the purpose of drawing it. I'll send it to you for the kids if you like, just so that they know what the TARDIS was based on.

    1. My kids would love that!

We almost bought a plain red phone booth with the idea of painting it TARDIS blue but it's still not the same thing.
