Monday is for Marriage

It seems my Mondays are turning into my date "day" with my hubby. I love it! Last week we both took the day off for our bathroom home project. Today I drove with him for a business assignment. While he's teaching a class, I'm indulging in a mini writer's retreat.

Today I'll concentrate on continuing edits to Talia's sequel. There's a story somewhere under all the word vomit.

Last week I finished my tweaks to Fade Into Me and updated the book trailer. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

  • What works?
  • What doesn't?
  • What do you think this book is about from the trailer

I'm worried the word "alien" will throw people off, although it's "technically" true. :) Thanks in advance for your help!

  1. I really like the trailer you've constructed. The splashes of color while at first a bit distracting soon won me over as they give added meaning to the word "Fade" in the title. Congratulations on date night, and all the projects you are finishing.

    1. Thanks! Life has been so busy that hubby is taking a week off after today. It will be great to do even more projects. In the meantime, I'm logging off now and taking a mini writing retreat. It's time to finish Talia's sequel once and for all.

  2. I liked it! The music really fit and the text in the splashes was perfect.
    Keep up those date nights!

    1. Thanks Alex! It's been wonderful to spend more time with my hubby lately. The world rushes so fast it's easy to forget to slow down together.

Hope you have a great week!

  3. I agree with Michael and Alex regarding the trailer. It was enjoyable. I was wondering if it would be possible to move some of the text up from the bottom of the screen? There were a few places where I didn't realize the text was there until it started to fade into the next screen.

As for what I think it's about: It sounds like some alien race created Earth, along with all the natural crazy that is in it and then created Man, only to find themselves utterly frought with guilt or something at creating us so they have guardians among us. As for where the romance comes in, I'm still working on understanding that :-)

    1. Awesome! I'll work on the romance part a bit more. What you pulled out is correct, and important to the story. But I'm wondering if I'm focusing on the wrong part. Because his people created humans (in an act of rebellion by the way) the High Council from their homeworld are punishing them. Every thousand years the royal family has to marry a human to show obedience. Hopefully one day that human will be able to see and work the magic. Only then will the Abhithians be released from their obligation on earth. It's the catalyst and it also causes a few problems.

I wish I could manipulate the program more. Unfortunately I don't have that option on Animoto. I tried a different background that I liked better and I think the words were easier to read. However, my daughter voted I go back to this background. It does fit better with the magic elements in the story. :)

  4. I love animoto. The video is well done. I thought the most interesting part was where it talks about us being their failed science project or something ;) you don't need the "us" because it's implied. And clarify that the girl is the only one who can release them. The stakes didn't seem very high because 1. Any girl will do, so what does it matter if his soulmate (one word) disses him?
    2. If she does diss him then everything will stay the same, which I think is a pretty cool situation: aliens taking care of us.
To fix this you need to first make the characters real to us. I know it's a short trailer, but right now they're just names. Maybe if you focused on only the guy. Give us a tidbit that makes is like and care about him. (When I read that about the girl's secret making her think he was better off without him I rolled my eyes..I HATE that kind of girly silliness..but I suppose it's a staple of the romance genre - which I also dislike...so maybe I'm not the best person to listen to.)

  5. Don't watch many book trailers but yours looks professional. It's a romance between an alien and a human with the fate of the alien race at stake. SciFi romance. I guess the aliens look human but can somehow recognize each other.
