Yes, sometimes comments are helpful and they guide you to a better place when you're a bit off, but mostly you have to know when it rings true for you and the characters...after all, who knows the story better than you! Much luck to you on future projects now that you can just get it out like it wants to be!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17293319431020341551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7762622439282650752.post-61955928911190123592012-01-04T15:59:02.046-06:002012-01-04T15:59:02.046-06:00Brooke and Miranda, thanks!

There will always be haters, and those who just don't get it. I just wish it hadn't taken me so long to get over it and just write.

Alex, I hope I can get to the point I don't stress it as much. At that point I'll stop editing my stuff to death.

Liz, words of wisdom. My voice was slowly obliterated until even I couldn't hear it. I would answer..."How did you like my fiction piece?" If they said, "Well what about religion and blah blah..." I would answer..."uhmm...did you not understand that this is a work of fiction? My real life and what I write are not in any way the same thing. Sendek is not real. Talia is not real. This is another world and this is what is happening to the characters that live there?"

Yes. Write for yourself. Follow your voice. There will always be haters out there, right?Michael Offutt, Phantom Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10557969104886174930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7762622439282650752.post-1973490805780487132012-01-04T11:02:32.068-06:002012-01-04T11:02:32.068-06:00Yaaaaaay Charity!

We hear that vampires are so out, and zombies too, and paranormal is glutted, and if agents reads another cozy serial killer slasher book they're going to shoot themselves.

I give myself panic attacks about it all the time. But the only way to really write the book of your heart is to write what the book needs, and forget about public opinion. I worry about the more than kissing, but not sex scenes, so it surprised me that some people would be offended by just kissing. Which shows you there will always be someone who is offended by what you've written.

One way I've tricked myself into writing what I want is labeling it "Sekrit Project" and working on it in tandem with another "real" project. I literally tell myself it's just for me. I don't talk about it on my blog or post excerpts, I don't tell my friends about it, sometimes I don't even title it outside of "Guilty Pleasure" or "Sekrit Projects". I work on it in between or after writing my "real" novel. If I don't have another novel in the works, I simply just say I am taking a writing break.

While editing another "real" novel is also a great time to work on a project like this, because your primary job is to edit. The writing is "just for fun".

I know this sounds absolutely crazy, but it works so well for me. Some of my best writing has come out of doing this. Maybe you can retire Sendek for a while. Then you work on something else. But secretly, you decide to work on Sendek. You rewrite the parts you tamed down. You do whatever the heck you want. Add in ghost-zombies if that's what sounds interesting.

No matter what you decide, good luck with writing for yourself. It's an uphill battle for sure.Elizabeth Poolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03214706118828699708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7762622439282650752.post-89713704826261519222012-01-04T07:40:25.981-06:002012-01-04T07:40:25.981-06:00I thought it was great.
