B is for Balance

Today I want to talk about life balance. Talia didn't have any, and I'm pretty sure my balance between writing and being a mom is pretty off kilter as well.

Let's talk about Talia first. With the loss of her family she buried herself in her work. She made sure there was no time for a social life that could lead to emotional attachments. Her loneliness should have clued her in to her lack of balance but she justified that away as well. Her story became about regaining her balance so to speak. She needed to learn how to open up her life and experience something other than fear.

Balance plays another part in the series as a whole, but it's only been hinted at in The Magic Wakes. The balance between magical energies (come back on E day for more on this), the balance of trust vs protection, and the balance between creation and responsibility for those creations will all play a part in the next three novels.

I'm always talking about how I'm trying to balance my life as a mom, wife, daughter, teacher, mentor, blogger, writer, friend... Seems like each week I'm trying something new. It used to bother me that I couldn't get this right, but now I realize it's okay. If I'm still trying then at least I know there are priorities in my life. I just have to keep looking at them and reorganizing them according to the day, week, month, whatever.

Life keeps moving on and somehow we all get through it. Isn't that a wonderful blessing? Hah! Another B word.

Do you feel balanced? What are you doing to regain lost balance?

    1. It was too hard for people to find how to comment so I went back to the other layout, but changed up the colors. Thanks! Simple still is better.

  2. I never feel balanced these days. There are just too many expectations on me from my extremely small and aging family.

    1. *hugs* That makes it hard to say no doesn't it? Good luck and try to find the time you need for yourself so you can re-center and find some balance. That's the only way I can stay sane.

  4. I've been a clutz all my life. Absolutely no balance. I found out I can't even train myself with balance! 3 years of Tae Kwon Do and I still can't keep myself stable on one foot! So, needless to say, I'm imbalanced in my life, emotions, and everything else as well. I do the best I can with what I've got. I have to remind myself to breathe sometimes. That's where my theme for A to Z comes in with Positive Thinking through Post-it Notes. Here's hoping we all can find some semblance of balance.

    1. LOL, my son just started Tae Kwon Do and I hope he is more balanced than I am. Heading your way now because I can always use some positive thinking!

  5. Good point that if you're trying at least you know you have priorities, I never thought of it that way. I sometimes think I will never figure the balance thing out!

    1. I think it's because life is never static. As soon as you find the balance, life changes and you've lost it again. *sigh* Change is good, change is good...

  6. Hi, Charity,
It's really hard to strike a balance on my journey. Exercise is the thing that get's neglected most. I also don't spend enough time relaxing.

    1. Me too! I'm getting fat because I always put exercise last. My daughter and I signed up for a 1/2 marathon on Saturday to walk/run just to kick start us moving again!

  7. I'm totally off balance and that is a horrible admission from a Libra! I'm working on it though. I'll get back to where I used to be all in due time.

  8. Balance. That's a hard one. Sometimes.

When I'm struggling, I flash to that scene in Highlander. The first movie. Where they're on a boat and Sean Connery sings "B-A-L-A-N-C-E". I'm not sure if it helps.

  13. Balance is especially difficult with a bipolar brain. I've always got so many ideas, and balancing those with being a dad and husband is always a challenge. Keep at it!

    1. Goodness, yes that would be hard. Sometimes I wonder if I've got some undiagnosed issue. My brain is just always bouncing all over the place.

Anyway, nice to meet you and you keep at it too! I think effort has to count for something, right?
