Yesterday I reached
THE END
And I did something I wouldn't normally do. I immediately queried my publisher.
Part of me thinks/knows I should have waited for my beta readers to get back to me. But the truth is I've been trying to get feedback on this story for six months. People are busy. Life is hard. Not everyone can sit down and read my book for me and give me advice.
The other part of me is ready to move forward with this series. It's been two years for crying out loud! This part won out thanks to several emails with my publisher. Karen let me vent my concerns and then encouraged me to just send it in. She said if nothing else, the acquisitions editor could at least give me a direction on what I need to work on to get it ready for them to accept.
So, no matter what happens in the next month or two, I've finally taken a much needed step forward.
It feels good!
While I wait I'll be drafting book three in the series. I learned my lesson. I will not lose the current momentum.
What are your goals? How are you doing on them?
That's awesome she said to send it anyway. A fresh set of eyes will make all the difference. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alex. It's amazing how the stress eases once the story is in someone else's hands.
DeleteWay to go, Charity! Hooray!
ReplyDeleteI feel you on the people are busy. That's the toughest part of beta readers. Them making the time. It doesn't always work out either. =(
I want to be respectful, but I also want to shake them by the collar and scream, "I need help, like now!!!" :)
DeleteI hear you, feel your pain, and share the sentiments!! The sound of crickets is deafening!!
Deletedoes it count that I plan on making goals? Congrats on finishing early, you deserve a celebration.
ReplyDeleteIt totally counts! LOL, planning is the first step, right?
DeleteCongratulations of reaching THE END! I have my fingers crossed for you. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks Chrys, I really appreciate that!
DeleteCongrats. It's great to get to "the end". (How come you never sent it to me to beta read? :(
ReplyDeleteI can still send it to you! I've sent it to my first readers and never heard anything back. In the past I've tried to save you and Carol the pain of early reads. I have no idea what kind of shape this book is in.
DeleteCongrats on finishing. I'm making good progress on my latest this week; let's hope the trend continues!
