Beach Scene Blogfest

Good grief! I forgot I signed up for this one. Rachel Bateman is hosting. Here is the link to the other entrants.

Ok, I had good intentions when I signed up, but life has been too crazy. None of my current wips have beaches. I planned to write a scene just for today, but never got around to it. Luckily, I posted something on my family blog last year that I can post. It is just my random thoughts after a family vacation to the beach. Nothing fancy, but it's how I felt on the drive home. And, after the long dream sequence from yesterday, this one is short.  Enjoy!

There is something therapeutic in a visit to the ocean. The feel of the warm sand in your toes, the way your leg muscles have to work harder for each step, forcing you to slow down and take a deep breath. Salty breezes with that faint seaweed and fishiness to it that wakes you up and brings things back into focus. The sound of the waves stumbling over each other in their dance up the sand and back out to sea, punctuated by the cries of the sea birds. The only soundtrack you need.

Something about jumping into the waves and coming up to taste the salt on your lips makes you feel young again. And when the wave breaks earlier than you thought it would, taking you by surprise and knocking you over, you can't help but laugh right along with your children. Yes, therapy is sitting on the beach with your feet in the surf, letting the wind, sand and water scour away your troubles and wash them out to sea.

UPDATE:
I just checked email and...
"Your story has been accepted for web publication by 365 Tomorrows. It will appear on the www.365tomorrows.com front page and will be archived within the site under the name you submitted with it. Thank you for your submission, and we hope that you contribute to 365 again in the future."

I'll let you know when they post it! I'm really excited because I think what I sent them is smut. It's a good idea that I have, but I threw something together months ago for Laurel's Microfiction Challenge. (See side bar under contests for the link to more information.) I think I can improve it quite a bit now. The nice thing about 365 Tomorrows is they have a forum where people will critique your story. VERY HONESTLY. It might be (most likely will be) painful. But that's good and I'm ready.
