Up to no good...

Or more like incapable of working/focusing on anything.

I have a short story coming out in the March issue of Apollo's Lyre but no idea when it will come out. I check the site 20 times a day so I can link to it.

Tomorrow they announce the quarter-finalist for ABNA. I am an emotional wreck and I'm not really sure what I hope for.

1. If I'm cut I can move forward with something else exciting. You don't get anything else on that until its official. ;)

2. What a confidence booster it would be to make the top 250 out of the original 5000 entries!

3. If I make it I have to suffer through another long month of waiting where I can barely concentrate on anything.

4. If I make it I know that I'll give in to the "what if I could really win this" trap. We all know how that usually ends up. Only 1 out of 5000 entries will win. The odds are NOT in my favor.

I think I'm going to throw up. Why do we do these things to ourselves? Maybe I need to leave my house--yes. I'll go buy the steam cleaner and lysol spray to help with the new puppy and potty training regime.

Oh, yeah. My sweet hubby did a complete 360 on Friday and we now have a puppy. He went from "we are never getting another dog" on Wednesday, to "C needs a real puppy instead of all those stuffed ones", to buying one on Friday.

Crazy.
Isn't he sweet? Both of them? Anyway, since the puppy looks like an ewok in the face we wanted a name to go along with that, but we couldn't think of any names other than Wicket. So we named him Chewey.

When I asked hubby why he changed his mind he said, "Well, I knew you really wanted one."

Isn't that just the sweetest thing ever? I never make a big deal about it but he still knew how much I've missed our dog from four years ago.

  1. Glad you got a puppy!
Just relax. You can't control the outcome of the ABNA, so why stress? Go play with the puppy for a while, you'll feel better.

  2. I did a very unusual thing when I saw your photo. I noticed your little sweetie first and THEN the puppy.
I don't normally do this but, Holy Cow, What a smile!

My fingers and toes are crossed for you. I'd cross my eyes but yanno, then I'd type like 5th8is

    1. LOL, that would make the revisions a real pain! Thanks. You know, when something good finally happens I might just have to come visit you. Your support has really helped me through some tough spots.

  4. Your little one has the brightest little smile and that puppy is ADORABLE. OMG!! Too cute, both of them. Yay for the puppy and for hubbies who love enough to change from "never" to "now".

And I would say don't throw up but I'm so not in your position. I am excited for you and wishing you the best with ABNA!!

    1. Aw, thanks Angela. My little guy gets away with way more than is good because of that smile. I feel so lucky to have the hubby that I do. We've known each other for 25 years and been married for almost 16 of those. Pretty cool I think.

I'll try not to throw up and I'll let everyone know what happens tomorrow.

  5. Such a sweet husband! I'd managed to forget about the results tomorrow and now I'm a complete wreck too! I'll keep my fingers crossed for us both ;)

    1. Sorry! I didn't mean to set you off too. I've just been running without sleep for so long that my brain can only latch onto one thing at a time. *sigh* it latched on to a month long count down.

      Good luck tomorrow!

  6. Now that we all know about the story, we can help you check and tell you when it's out...

I know it's hard, but try to think about something else. Because maybe you could win ABNA. It is possible. Someone has to win. (Don't look at the odds.)

    1. I know and that's what's driving me crazy. for months I prayed that "something" would happen with my writing or that I would be able to move on and quit. Then two great things happened withing 48 hours. It's as if heaven is saying don't quit, but my brain can't balance writing and family life very well and my family must be first. It's so hard to know what's right, what's okay, and what I want.

      Did that make any sense?

  10. Sweet little puppy! So cute.

I'm wishing you lots of luck with ABNA. I hope you hear good news!

  11. My mom named her dog Chewey too for the same reason. As far as the contest goes, I think we all understand how you feel. But I think it would be encouraging to make it this far. I would for my writing to win anything--honorable mention--a spirit stick--anything. Good luck.

  12. I hope you win ABNA. Just don't develop a fat head. I dislike writers with fat heads that are completely full of themselves.

  13. Lol! You sound in a bind over that contest thingy! Hope you hear some good news, though, even if it will throw you in another month long worry-spree! Are you writing something new while you wait to take your mind off it?

    CUTE FREAKING PUPPY!! AWE!!

    1. I'm trying to finish my YA realistic fantasy, but it is SO hard to concentrate. That's why I want to know more than anything. I hate feeling unproductive, and I'm there.

      Thanks!

  15. I felt the same way on Monday (and Tuesday morning). I didn't make it through this round of cuts, so whole hog on the next project. The new puppy and the boy are absolutely adorable. Enjoy!
